The UK Academy Course

The UK Academy Course as taught by Hilary Norris-Evans, BA. Hons, Cert Ed., C I. HPD, MNLP, Certified Coach, Mindfulness Practitioner, DABCH, MCAHyp, MNCH (Acc), DipHypSup.

Bath/Bristol

The Course Basics:

Venue: The Amber  Room, The Practice Rooms, 57/59 High Street, Westbury-on-Trym, BS 9 3 ED.

The Practice Rooms has a common room and kitchen, where you can make tea and coffee; and is very centrally situated in Westbury-on-Trym

Westbury-on-Trym is a quiet part of Bristol, with an almost village / small town atmosphere but plenty of cafes, shops, and restaurants.

Parking and access: Access to the course is easy by car via the M5, Exit 17 (Cribbs Causeway exit and then follow the signs for West Bristol), without having to cross the city of Bristol and parking is available on side roads on Saturday and everywhere on Sunday.

Dates: as per the dates sheet.  There is usually no course in August.

Times: 10-5.30; 1 hour for lunch (unless we agree otherwise), 15 minute break mid- morning and mid -afternoon

Tuition: 120 hours over 10 weekends of 12 hours face to face tuition

Supervision/tutorial: 20-30 minutes each weekend at no extra cost to you, by request. You may discuss personal issues and the portfolio. After you set up in practice, you will be expected to have regular supervision with me, which you pay for. This is a requirement of NCH and National Colleges( NHSP)

Cost: £2220. Extra costs: £50 at most to register with NCH for the HPD. Cost of book purchases. £220 for extra weekend for Specialist Certifications (optional). Most students pay upfront and payment by instalment is available.

Deposit: £222 to be paid two months prior to the start of the course in order to secure your place. I also run a waiting list if you sign up after that date.

Invoicing: As you prefer, so you may choose how you will most benefit tax-wise.

Course Notes: Delivered in hard copy for the introductory session and then electronically, to keep running costs and thus student fees reasonable. You are responsible as a student for how you store your hard copy notes and electronically. Extras given out by me may be hard copy or electronic.

You will receive extra notes from me, at any time I deem necessary or reasonable and I usually teach in parallel to the course notes, so you have at least 2 chances to understand. I do not teach via the ‘death by power point’ method ; rather there is a great deal of discussion, pair work, practice of inductions , interventions, demonstrations  and pedagogical input to ensure you learn in the best possible way. You are encouraged invite friends and acquaintances who might like hypnotherapy to come at set times so I can demonstrate hypnotherapeutic practices and techniques and you can practise assessment and hypnotherapeutic practices and techniques

Membership of NCH: You are entitled to free membership of NCH for 15 months and upon completion of your HPD are entitled to apply for full membership. You can get insurance, entry to the NCH Conference and journals as a member of this body. You also get free membership of NSHP at first and as such are entitled to attend their conference in June in Leicester.

Qualifications Obtained:

Dip Cah( Diploma in Clinical Advanced Hypnotherapy;  internal to UK Academy), 4 specialist certifications( internal to UK Academy), the Gold Standard externally accredited HPD( Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma) after completion of your portfolio( NVQ level 4 and 40 OU credits).

Entry to CNHC upon completion. You can become a member of CNHC, Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council)  which is a special register, denoting your external qualification and recognition by CNHC

As UKA is part of NCHP, you may choose to continue study to Post Graduate level and become a hypno-psychotherapist under UKCP regulations. There is no obligation as you are a fully qualified, though inexperienced, beginner hypnotherapist after 120 hours of study. In practice, most good, competent hypnotherapists continue with CPD and supervision, which is a requirement through NCH

In summary, you are a fully qualified and competent hypnotherapist upon completion of the course and portfolio.

Your Tutor, Hilary Norris-Evans:

I have worked in hypnotherapy since 1997; previously I worked in language teaching and management in Further and Higher Education. I have set up my hypnotherapy practice on three occasions (due to moving) so have a great deal of knowledge of the pitfalls and best practice.

As my background is in education, you can be sure I can train you in a professional way. I am your assessor for The HPD Portfolio, as I also have an assessor qualification, although there will also be internal and external verification, through NCH and NCFE.  I also assess externally for another organisation which works towards the HPD external qualification, so have an excellent idea of the required standard

I am a qualified and certified supervisor, have been on The NCH Committee, was its specialist advisor for Self Esteem and am qualified in Mindfulness. I also am a Master Practitioner of NLP, well respected in my field and have led workshops both nationally and internationally.  I have a NVQ Level 4 qualification in CBT (but CBT is not really covered in this course in any depth); am a certified coach and Easibirthing practitioner.

If you wish to know what I am really like as a trainer from a student’s point of view, you may speak to a current or previous student.

I would describe my training style as being consistent, fair, empowering, enthusiastic, encouraging, open and honest. In my training I endeavour to demonstrate what being a good hypnotherapist is and I challenge and encourage my students at the same time. I use the pedagogical methods I learnt in my training and practised in my teaching.  I would not expect any student to be a clone of me and I employ an eclectic approach.

As well as training to be a hypnotherapist, you will probably go on your own journey through the course and grow. You will certainly be encouraged to overcome personal issues through this course with the help of hypnotherapy and you will be expected to practise self- hypnosis, once you are competent at it.  You may even become a competent script writer in hypnotherapy; something I encourage in all students.

The UK Academy Course Syllabus

You will find it in great detail on The UK Academy website (ukacademy.org) or on my getmindfittraining.co.uk website. It covers all you need to know in order to become a safe, competent and ethical practitioner, including:

Elman, Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP (NB not CBT)

The therapeutic relationship, ethical practice

Safe inductions, language work for interventions, safe exits from hypnotherapy, ending a session in a satisfactory way.

Interventions for anxiety, panic attacks, smoking cessation, weight management, regression work, phobia work and much more. Check out the syllabus for full details.

ADDITIONALLY, you will learn about rapid induction processes, as I am very keen on these procedures as well as being extremely fond of Milton Erickson. Rapid induction is an extra I have chosen to add to the full syllabus. I lead CPD courses on Rapid Induction, Confidence and Self Esteem, Problem Gambling and NLP and have knowledge and experience of leading courses in Business and organisations

ADDITIONALLY, at the end of the course, you have the opportunity to submit 4 specialist certifications in Anxiety, Stop Smoking, Ericksonian and NLP. I usually agree with you an extra weekend (for which there is an additional cost of £222) to help you achieve these. Alternatively, you may study for them on your own, without help.

I hope this information sheet is helpful for you and you may contact me to ask for further details.

Best wishes

That is hypnosis!

Hypnosis is a natural state of being which all of us have experienced. In your childhood you were in trance or hypnosis a good deal of the time. You already know how to do it. It’s just that many people keep putting themselves into negative trance and need to learn how to put themselves s into positive trance. Hypnosis can feel like daydreaming or when you are immersed in a good book , a film or a computer game. Sometimes when you are driving along a very familiar road you are in a light hypnotic trance and mildly surprised when you reach your destination.

Perhaps the secret of hypnotherapy is that you can learn to guide yourself out of your negative trances  into more positive ones with a little guidance from a  competent, ethical practitioner.

How hypnosis can help:

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose control?

No; you are in total control of your own thoughts. The hypnotherapist cannot make you bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken, unless that’s is what you wanted to achieve and any good hypnotherapist would not consider those to be viable outcomes.

Is it like stage hypnosis?

No. Stagehypnotists sometimes use similar induction techniques to a hypnotherapist, but stage hypnotists are using hypnosis to entertain people and use on stage those members of the audience who can go verydeeply into trance and who wish to be famous or have their few minutes of fame.

Can I get stuck in a trance?

No, you can move around and talk. This is what children do as they are naturally intrance. Having said that, I notice alot of people who spend alot of their lives in a negative ‘trance’ or state of mind, imagining the worst, resisting change and being stuck in a rut.

Can I resist hypnosis?

Yes if you want to. You only make the transition into hypnosis if you want to.

Is  hypnosis difficult to learn?

No, you already know how to do it. You have been doing it since the day you were born

Can I control others using hypnosis?

No; there is hypnotic language used by sales people and in advertisements, in politics and meetings but you only accept theses suggestions if you feel inclined to do so.

Am I in a coma?

No.

Am I asleep?

No. Some clients occasionally fall asleep during hypnosis but hypnosis is not sleep

Am I unconscious?

No.
