Find out moreWhat is hypnosis?
Many might say that all hypnosis is self hypnosis. My belief is, to quote Shakespeare: 'Life is but a waking dream' anyway and maybe the job of a hypnotherapist is to help our clients out of the negative trances they are in and back in to positive ones.
Hypnosis is a natural way of being and we all know how to do it. It can be be thought of as a mix of belief, expectation and imagination, which, in combination, are far more powerful than will power alone. It’s about having the right mindset.
The audio files I tailor make for each individual client, help guide you into a relaxed state of mind, but with heightened awareness. Some people believe, mistakenly, that you can only achieve it under the guidance of a therapist. However, I teach self-hypnosis to most clients and it is particularly important for use with pain management.
You also need to achieve deeper hypnosis for regression work, but most issues can be helped, even if you are only in light hypnosis.
The good news is, you get better at hypnosis , the more you practise it.
How is it different from counselling?
I don’t just talk about the issue. From the very beginning I use suggestion therapy to help you make the changes and progress you want for yourself. Later on, there are interventions to help you make the changes you want for yourself to achieve your own outcomes.
Is it the same as CBT?
Definitely not, although, having been trained in CBT techniques, Imay use some as part of my extensive toolbox. CBT uses the consciousmind, as does counselling, whereas in hypnosis, you bring into playthe great potential and power of the unconscious or deeper mind.
Am I asleep, unconscious or in a coma during hypnosis?
Definitely not, although some clients sometimes fall off to sleep, particularly those who are using hypnosis to overcome sleeping problems.
Hypnosis more akin to how we feel when we are deeply engrossed in an activity, on automatic pilot or just before we go to sleep or wake up.
Is it the same as Mindfulness?
Definitely not. Mindfulness is all about training your conscious mind, whereas hypnosis is all being in tune with your subconscious or intuitive mind. As a mindfulness teacher, I also teach some techniques if you require or need them. In meditation you may drop into a deep, meditative state, more akin to self hypnosis.
