A healthy mind in a healthy body

A dream I had last night inspired this piece and, as dreams and the subconscious mind are so closely related, I thought I would tell you. It was about a living disembodied head that went around everywhere with the family and conversed with it. Gruesome maybe, but I think that is how some people treat their heads and bodies ; as 2 distinct entities.

As a hypnotherapist and coach ( using NLP) it may seem that all I care about is my client’s mental state of being. Far from it. I believe that the body is the unconscious part of the mind, that is, it shows, through symptoms or pain, what is going on in the mind. After all, all our physical symptoms start from chemical and hormonal reactions, produced by the mind, the brain, about which we still know very little, in spite of scientists’ claims to the contrary.

So it was no surprise to me that, after a busy working period, including a working weekend and then rushing to London to look after a very active 2 year old in the early period after her brother’s birth, I succumbed to a cold and toe infection on my return home and needed a calm weekend of me time and looking after myself.  My body told me what I needed to do.

So I urge all my potential and current clients and readers to live by the dictum of hoping for and taking actions that cause ‘ mens sana in corpore sano’. What do I mean by this? Not only taking the necessary steps and actions in between sessions that I’ve recommended for the mind’s comfort, but also living healthily, eating healthily, exercising, walking and  taking  time out for relaxation.  Achieve mind/body harmony.
